It starts with a spark.

We began by telling tales around the fire, stories woven and brought to life as wood burned with a terrifying and kinetic beauty.

The forests and caves have been changed to theaters and living rooms. The pyre has been changed to a screen. The dancing flames have been changed to moving images, its crackling to music.

But the need for story has never altered.

Perhaps there is a way to capture the arresting and magnetic movement of the flames in an edit, and the rapture of an audience through expert and meticulous storytelling. You bring the wood, I’ll bring the match. Let’s make it burn.

Testimonials

“Austin is a standout editor whom I would happily hire and work with any day. His edits are clean and fast, but more than that, Austin thinks creatively and independently and isn’t afraid to jump in with a suggestion that makes the work better rather than just executing robotically. He’s got an energetic, well-paced style as an editor, but I also value his thoughtful editorial perspective.”

— Bianca Consuji

“Without hesitation and unequivocally, Austin is the best editor I've ever worked with. His ability to turn raw footage into a cohesive, visually compelling narrative, at such a fast pace is remarkable. He is also adept at producing different kinds of edits - from fast pace sizzle reels, to cold open trailers, to ethereal edits that require deliberate edits at a slower pace; he can do it all. At the end of our time working together, Austin was not only an editor, but a sounding board for my pre-production directorial thoughts, scripting and arc formulation. Simply put, Austin is not only an incredible asset, but a top-notch collaborator whose work makes everyone around him look better.”

Why me?

  • My first question is always, “what is the story?” Story is absolutely paramount to my editing, and I will do everything in my power to make sure we’re telling the strongest version possible. From edit structure, to visual language, to transitional tissue, I want every piece to be narratively sound and unique in its voice.

  • Music plays an integral role in my editing. Ask anyone I’ve worked with: I do a killer music edit. I was surrounded by music growing up, studied voice, and devoured music in all its forms. This has left me with a keen sense of rhythm, a vast knowledge of music styles, and an acute understanding of the power of the right piece of music.

  • I consider myself an observer in life more than a participant and my eye is always drawn to the beauty of movement in nature, machinery, and the human body. After spending years studying ballet and dance, I’ve translated my love of movement into my editing, always looking to elevate the lyrical flow of a piece by looking for movement in a shot and building sequences to continue it throughout the edit.

  • Like a match that ignites and then burns fast, there comes a moment in every project where something sparks, and once it clicks whether it’s finding the perfect shot, or the right edit, or a killer music track, I can’t stop until it’s done burning. I edit and re-edit as I go, making consistent in-the-moment changes as I work so that when you first see a cut, we’re as close to finished as possible.

  • No man is an island, and no editor is either. Although my timelines are where a piece comes together in its final form, I’m cognizant of every step it has already been through and crave creative collaboration. Whether it’s working directly with a graphics teams to brainstorm, with producers on scripting, or social teams on effective marketing pieces, I seek to be friendly and energetic throughout a project, open and receptive to feedback, and adaptable to all situations.
